History and Updates for the Global Methodist Church

  • The Global Methodist Church launched on May 1, 2022.
    • The Global Methodist Church will be a church in transition as it prepares for its convening General Conference. During the transitional period, the Global Methodist Church will operate under the Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline.
    • It was recently announced that the initial General Conference will be held on Costa Rica on September 20-26, 2024. 
      • ​This location will make it easier for delegates from other countries to attend since they will not have the strict USA visa requirements to enter that country. 
      • This location also celebrated our denomination's commitment to be a global church.
    • The GMC now have over 3,800 churches!
  • Our church voted on May 21, 2023, to join with the Global Methodist Church.
  • The Transitional Leadership Council of the GMC approved a Mississippi-West Tennessee Provisional Annual Conference beginning August 1, 2023.
  • The MS-WTN annual conference held its initial meeting on January 25-27, 2024 in Memphis, TN.
    • ​Waiting until 2024 for this annual conference meeting allowed churches and pastors from other denominations, and also those disaffiliating from the UMC in early December 2023, to attend this celebration.
    • Our annual conference now have 180 churches and is growing in number every week!
    • Our church leaders attended the Pine Belt District Charge Conference on November 12.
  • ​Our church hosted the spring Annual Conference meeting on June 12-13, 2024.

  • The convening General Conference met on September 20-26, 2024 in Costa Rica. They voted on the constitution and the Book of Doctrines and Discipline and elected six Bishops. Rev. Dr. Jim Genesse and Dr. Andy Miller from our church were elected and served as delegate at the Conference.
  • The next General Conference will be held in Africa in 2026. From that point, General Conference meetings will be held every six years. 
  • It was announced on October 8, 2024, that Bishop Scott Jones will continue to be the Bishop for the MS-WTN annual conference.
  • Exciting news! The Book of Doctrine and Discipline is now available in English on our website. While this is a preliminary version, with historical information and an index coming soon, we wanted to share the text now.Stay tuned for the final version, expected next week, along with the revised Judicial Practices and Procedures. We’re grateful for the Journal Committee’s hard work and look forward to how this resource will guide us as we continue spreading scriptural holiness across the globe. Access it now at https://globalmethodist.org/what-we-believe/.

  • Our pastor visited Sunday School classes last fall and also held a Town Hall on September 17, 2023, to discuss the structure and doctrines of the GMC and to answer any questions our church family might have.
