Lord's Acre
A brief history of Lord’s Acre Day
The Lord’s Acre program of giving originated years ago in rural churches throughout the nation, during an era when most people relied on farming for their livelihood. Church members would pledge their income from an acre of land, an animal, or a portion of their crop through an offering that was made during the Thanksgiving season.
The Lord’s Acre observance has been a tradition in the Madison Methodist Church since 1961 and has become a vital component of the church’s stewardship program. All of the Lord’s Acre funds have been used to help retire the indebtedness on the church’s building programs and property acquisitions.
